Lagos Police Seized more than 140,000 Pieces of Illegal Printing Consumables

Lagos-State-governmentRecently, the government of Lagos State of Nigeria and the industry’s leading original printer manufacturer (OEM) Hewlett-Packard Co., Ltd. have cooperated to protect consumers from counterfeit products.

According to reports, under the command of Commissioner of Police I. O Edgal and Hewlett-Packard officials and under the command of the Lagos State Police Department, Lagos State conducted a large-scale raid on the search for international counterfeit products. As part of this raid, the police seized several counterfeit products at stores, warehouses and manufacturing sites in Lagos and Abuja. During the operation, Nigerian officials seized about 142,000 illegal items, most of which were parts used to make counterfeit toner and ink cartridges.

Over the past five years, with the support of HP, local authorities in EMEA have seized about 12 million counterfeit products and components. HP also conducted more than 4,500 audits and inspections of the partners’ inventory or suspicious delivery behaviors with customers.

It is understood that through HP’s Anti-counterfeiting and Fraud Program (ACF), the company actively educates customers and partners to guard against counterfeit printing consumable products. HP also worked closely with local and global law enforcement agencies at EMEA to detect and destroy illegal activities that produced counterfeit HP printing-related parts and components.
