In the fourth quarter of 2017, India’s printer shipments showed a declining trend due to the weakening effect of India’s New Product Service Tax (GST) on accounting work. IDC stated that Indian printer suppliers and channel partners are mainly driving sales growth of printers in the Indian market through channel sales plans, end-user promotions in major markets, and regular channel expansion plans.

AbHishek Mukherjee, senior analyst at IDC India, said: “Compared to laser printers, the low cost of owning printers and printing is the reason for the increase in shipments of inkjet printers in India.”

In addition, in the category of inkjet printers, CISS/inkjet printers dominated the Indian printer market in the fourth quarter of 2017. India’s third- and fourth-tier cities have created 50% of CISS printers. The demands of SOHO (Small Offices and Home Offices), SEMs (SMBs), Cooperative Banking Departments, and Printer Service Providers are the main drivers of increased demand for ink cartridge inkjet printers in these markets.
